Sevendust proved why they remain one of modern rock’s most dependable live acts, commanding the stage at El Paso’s intimate Abraham Chavez Theater with a setlist that balanced their heaviest material with some surprising deep cuts.

Atlanta’s best opened with “One,” immediately establishing the aggressive energy that would define the evening. The rhythm section of bassist Vince Hornsby and drummer Morgan Rose locked in tight, providing the thunderous foundation that Lajon Witherspoon’s distinctive vocals soared over.

The early stretch through “Denial” and “Is This the Real You” found the band in top form, their dual-guitar approach of Sonny Weems and John Connolly creating walls of layered sound that filled the venue. When they hit “Crucified,” the crowd erupted — a fan favorite that showcased the band’s knack for crafting hooks within their heavier framework.

“Praise” and the oddly-titled “Waffle” kept momentum high, though the latter’s inclusion was unexpected; it’s the kind of track that works better on record than live, yet the band’s conviction made it work. “Enemy” and “Angel’s Son” brought the emotional core, with Witherspoon’s vocals reaching powerful peaks.

The closing trio of “Black,” “Rumble Fish,” and “Face to Face” sent the crowd home satisfied, particularly the raw aggression of “Black” and the atmospheric build of “Rumble Fish.”
