Shinedown at the Don Haskins Center

Shinedown at the Don Haskins Center

Shinedown brought their Dance Kid, Dance Act II tour 2026 to the Don Haskins Center here in El Paso, Texas this past Sunday and what a way to round out the weekend.   What can one say about this band that isn’t good?   Line up has stayed the same since 08, 8 releases in 23 years, 23 number 1 singles, 10 million albums sold worldwide.  Between 09 and 26, Shinedown has been nominated for every award possible and won Rock Artist of the year, both in 25 and 26.   The current lineup, as I said has been the same since 08, is Brent Smith doing vocals, Zach Myers on guitar, Eric Bass on Bass and Barry Kerch doing the honors on percussion.   Brent and Barry are the originals from 01, Eric and Zach came on board in 08.  18 years with the same lineup, in my book, that speaks volumes.
On the evenings card as in support were, From Ashes to New and Coheed and Cambria.  Both solid acts for sure, Drag Me to Hell by From Ashes to New is on any play list in the Top 40 FM rock world.  Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria puts on one high energy show without a doubt, this makes my second time covering these guys, always a fun show.     Now I was informed that I’d be shooting FOH for Shinedown, that means from the Soundboard, not up front.   But to my surprise they had two extensions from center stage out and from that, three catwalks with a round pod on the end.  In other words, the stage came out to FOH with maybe a couple of hundred fans on the floor wrapped around it, for me, it was perfect, I got the first three and I’m out.  Let’s go to work.
Shinedown hit the stage a little after 9, right from the start, you could tell Brent and company were on a mission, a mission that took no prisoners on this warm summer night out here in West Texas.   Brent’s dynamic vocals take hold from the very first note and like a bulldog, he never let’s go thought-out a 21-song set list.   Combined with the efforts from Zach, Barry and Eric this band has been captivating audiences worldwide for years.   Hits like, Searchlight, Cut the Cord, Monsters, Sound of Madness and of course, Second Chance were sang along note for note, lyric by lyric by enthusiastic fans.  They danced and sang interacting with the band, you just cannot feel connected to the music from Shinedown, especially when Brent has you eating from the palm of his hand.     A Shinedown show is highly engaging, not to mention the stage production that was full of pyro and smoke effects, all choreographed to match the mood of the music, quite impressive.  In closing, all I can say is, what a show!!  Blue Ribbon all the way.  If you do get the chance to attend a Shinedown show, make no mistake, you too will be talking about it for days after.    Thank you so much and of course, I’ll see you at the next rock show.
