“Veteran Rocker, Danko Jones Punks Up The Palladium“
A 17 year veteran of the stage, Danko Jones’ experience with varying crowds was evident while warming up the audience for Volbeat on their current U.S. tour. He was commanding and charismatic in his delivery and the live mix was true to the band’s studio releases over the last decade.
Song highlights include opening the set with the first track Terrified from their new record, Rock and Roll is Black and Blue, which set the tone for the night with its punk influenced backbeat. He then immediately jumped back to 2003 with the funk rock tune Forget My Name among others.
The band performed their new single Just a Beautiful Day, which has an aggressive, rhythmic verse followed by a dreamy but strong chorus hook. Newcomers to Danko’s music should definitely check this song out. The crowd reacted by singing along with Danko and the concert really started to rock! Next up was the groovy Full of Regret and I Think Bad Thoughts (which pulls quotes from 80’s metal in its lyrics), both from 2010’s Below the Belt record.
They played songs from many different albums, spanning the band’s career. All of them with hard hitting rhythms and efficient guitar hooks. If you love groovy, punk rock music in the style of Motorhead, AC/DC and The Ramones, but with the musical quality of Lenny Kravitz or The Foo Fighters, you should definitely check out this band in a live music venue near you. This is a group who has traveled the world playing rock together and it shows in the quality of their performance.
