Upon A Burning Body makes the Borderland a regular stop.

Upon A Burning Body makes the borderland a regular stop.

Now, here comes a band I never get tired of covering and that’s of course, Upon A Burning Body.   This outfit straight out of San Antonio, never fails to stop here in El Paso when they’re out on the road. I’ve covered them at least a half dozen times during my tenure as a music photographer here in West Texas, the Texas Showdown in 15, mutable times at Tricky Falls and now the Rockhouse Dive Bar Kitchen Venue is the place to be as it was last Tuesday night, yeah, on a Tuesday, no less. No matter, the stage was set, and the house was packed, everyone was ready, ready to have their hair blown back, West Texas style.
The band was formed in 2005 in San Antonio, Texas, the current lineup has been together for the past 4 years with Danny and Ruben the only original members. As it stands now its Danny Leal on vocals, Ruben Alvarez on guitar, Tito Felix doing the honors on percussion and Thomas Alvarez on Bass.  They have generated 6 releases in the past 14 years, they’re latest was Fury in 2022. Not to mention, 17 singles to their credit, which 7 of those are on tonight’s set list.  It’s also noted that when each album was released over those years, each one performed better than the last, makes perfect sense to me, because each time I see this epic Metal Core/ Death Core band these guys just get better and better.   They hit the stage close to 10 and blew in the doors with my personal favorite, Killshot.  Danny Leal is hands down one of my personal favorite frontmen, just insane energy is the understatement of the year, truly a master at his craft.  Ruben on guitar, what can I say, hard to take your eyes off of him, just melting faces was the order of the evening and the backbone of the band, Thomas and Tito, never missing a lick.  A 13-song set list was devoured in no time, rounding out the evening with Texas Blood Money.  This tour was just a small Texas 6 date tour, starting with us and ending in Corpus last Sunday.  Regardless, they’ll be back next year as they always do, and we’ll be looking forward to it. Thank you and of course, we’ll see you at the next Rock Show.
