Air Supply makes a stop in ole El Paso

Air Supply brought their Lost in Love Experience Tour to the Abraham Chavez Theatre last Saturday night here in lovely El Paso, Texas.   On a personal note, I’m somewhat embarrassed to say, I didn’t do any research on the band before the show and not a real fan either, all I did know was I knew all the songs, I mean who doesn’t?  Have you ever been to a show and said, Oh, that’s who sings that song, I love that song!!  C’mon, admit it, we’ve all done it.   Truely, I didn’t know what to expect last Saturday, but I gotta tell ya, I was pleasantly surprised..
Straight outa Melbourne, Australia in 75, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell have been the core of this band for the past 44 years, oh yeah, I forgot to mention 17 releases as well to their credit.  Lineup changes are the norm, but as stated, Russell and Graham are Air Supply.  Soft Rock / Pop Rock is the category they fall into and we know all their songs, believe me, you do.  House lights go down at 8:05 and I’m standing at the foot of the stage watching each member come out, and saying to myself, these guys look pretty young, unknowing that these guys are just the band, so when I heard the roar of the crowd I look towards the other side of the stage and here come Russell and Graham, ok, boy do I feel stupid, I get it now.
They went through a 14-song set list of hit after hit after hit like it wasn’t even there.  This El Paso audience was on their feet singing and swaying back and forth to mega hits like Lost in Love, Every Woman in the World, All Out of Love and my personal favorite, Even the Nights are Better.  Russell on Vocals, Graham on Guitar and Aaron Mclain on Guitar, Mirko Tessandori on the Keyboard, Doug Gild on Bass and last but not least, Pavel Valdman doing the honors on Percussion.  I was promised a great time by the publicist, and he wasn’t wrong, I caught myself singing along as well during the second song, truth be told, you just can’t help yourself, I stopped for a moment shooting and looked around at the audience, nothing gives me more joy than watching people enjoy themselves, truly enjoy themselves and that was certainly the case here last Saturday night with the iconic Air Supply, a great show, tight band, everything was on point, I give it five stars, check those listings and we’ll see you at the next rock show.
