Tim SchumannAlex Story is doing a small venue tour mostly in the Southwest, he’s coming to the Rockhouse this Sunday, I’m reading this on the Thursday before the show, a tad bit of a short notice I’d say, but regardless, I make plans to attend simply because I know who he is, not from Cancerslug, who he founded back in 99 and released 26 albums during that period, but from being the front man for the horror punk band Doyle, featuring Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, which I have covered twice before, hence knowing who he is, but this is a solo tour with a half dozen dates ending at the Whiskey this Saturday (29 April). He goes back out on tour on 7 May with Doyle and does a month-long tour that ends in Columbus on 9 June, in the good news department, he’ll be back here in West Texas on 31 May, needless to say, I’ll be on assignment for that one as well.
So this past Sunday (23 April) Alex Story does a solo show, nothing but him, a hollow body Gretsch guitar and a small stack of orange amps, under 100 in attendance and I owe that to announcing the show days before, I for one was hoping for a better turn out, but it happens, but that certainly won’t be the case on 31 May, they’ll pack the house, they always do. No set list to speak of, but after speaking to a few fans, Beating a Dead Whore, Dick Solid and I Want to Fuck Your Girlfriend, all Cancerslug hits, definitely were crowd favorites. One man, one guitar and an intimate, up close and personal audience, yeah, I’d say it went well, I love it when I see fans mouthing every word to every song as well as I’m sure Alex did, looking forward to his return next month, check out Doyle’s tour dates, odds are, he’s coming to a town near you, Horror Metal at its finest.
